The Breakfast Club.
Characters:-
Claire Standish-
Claire is a bit of a princess, everything has to go her way. Claire is girly, she wears the best clothes probably out of all the actors. Claire is popular and a little selfish. Female
John Bender-
John is a criminal and he is a bully, he is'nt very nice to anyone. John is 'wacko' and crazy. He smokes and he thinks he is cool. He ends up falling in love with Claire. Male
Allision Reynolds-
Allision is very quiet, and she appears to be 'emo' or 'goth'. She is strange and 'wacko'. She hardly ever talks during most of the movie and she is a compulsive liar. Female
Brian Johnson-
Brian is the nerd of the group, he is a little shy. He is smart, and he has braces. Male
Andrew Clark-
Andrew is the jock of the group. He wears his state champion jumper for almost the whole movie. Andrew starts to take a strong interest for Allision towards the end of the movie, he falls in love with her. Male
~ Clothing...
Andrew wears his state champion jumper.
Claire wears pastal colours like light pink, and she wears red.
John wears denim and dull colours.
Allision wears black clothing, to give off the dark and lonely impression that we get from the type of personality she has.
Brian wears dull colours such as brown, black, and white.
They all wear a jacket, jumper, or rain coat.
~ Feelings towards each other...
At the start of the film they feel ennoyed by eachother; they dislike each other, they don't know each other all that much, and they call each other names. It changes throughout the film because they get to know each other and they start to like each other.
~ The plot...
The story is about a few teenagers who have to go to a saturday detention class, they hardly know anyone else in the class until they get to know each other in the class. When they start to get to know each other they bully each other, stir each other up, and are annoyed or grossed out by one and other. Although as the story starts to move we see that all the characters talk, meet, and understand and respect each other. They realise things that they didn't before hand about each other, they know things about each other that they didn't know before, they start to realise that they are all different and they all have their ups and downs although everyone of them are unique and different, they like each other they just didn't know it at the start of the film yet. Two relationships start to form as we see at the end of the movie there are kisses. The teenagers get to know each other and one of the boys writes the one essay explaining everyones qualities and stereotypes in it.
~ Settings...
- At a school, in a detention classroom.
- The school yard.
- Inside cars.
- Through the school.
~ Music...
The music in the film was mostly cheary, and happy music; although some music showed concern or sadness. A lot of the music was instrumental. I think this music has been used to make the scene more clearer of what is happening, and to show the audience what moods they should be feeling for that point in the story.
~ Themes/Issues...
- The group have fights and arguments.
- They try to get out of the detention room.
- The differences of each person.
- The love and understanding, and the emotions that show throughout the end of the movie.
-- The issues and themes are different to other teen films i have watched in a few ways; for most of the duration of the movie they are in a detention classroom that is not usually the main point/idea of a teen movie that i have seen, the group of teenagers actually like each other at the end of the film usually when they have 'hated on each other' so much they stay with their opinions of the person and they wouldn't like them as much towards the end, i think that that idea is a little unrealistic because i don't think they would like each other as much even after getting to know each other as they do in this film, they would understand them better and see how they take things in life and how they have strong emotions and feelings about things in their life and family but i still think at least two of the teenagers would still dislike at least one other person.
The Breakfast Club
***
This film is about a group of teenagers that don't know each other all that much at first, although they all have a saturday detention class and when they meet they get to know each other better and share their personal life with each other throughout their detention class. It is a good film for teenagers, it shows the audience that just because people are different doesn't mean they can't become a good friend or get along with some one completely different to them, they just have to get to know them better and realise how great they actually are deep down. 'They only met once, but it changed their lives forever'; quote from the movie. We give The Breakfast Club 3 stars.

Clueless.
~ The genre for a teen film is usually a 'chic flick', although the genre for some teenager films are romance, fantasy, or even comedy. In teen films the typical events that occur revolve around relationships, shopping, friendships, families, interests and high school life. Teen films are usually set at shopping centres, high schools, streets, homes, or sport venues.
Five teen films I have watched are:
*Mean Girls
*Wild Child
*Easy A
*The House Bunny
*Sydney White
~ Character Descriptions..
- Cher:
The character of Cher plays and demonstrates a popular high school girl. Cher is very manipulative, she almost always gets her own way and everything she wants. She loves the attention, although she is a typical teenage girl who has strong interests for certain things such as shopping, dressing nicely, being 'popular', having relationships and friendships, and trying to impress.
- Dionne:
The character of Dionne plays and demonstrates a popular high school girl also. Dionne is a trend setter, and she has a boyfriend. Dionne is Cher's best friend, Cher and Dionne are both extremely popular at their high school and a lot of the time they do stuff to benefit their selves. Dionne is a darker skin tone and her black hair is usually tied in braids.- Tai:
When Tai first comes to the high school she isn't very popular, Cher and Dionne help her to get more popular by giving her a 'makeover'. Throughout the movie Tai becomes more and more popular and she seems to go over the top, using the attention she is getting too much. Tai takes a liking to the 'skater boy' named Travis.
- Josh:
Josh used to be Cher's step brother, so I suppose you may say that they are 'ex relatives'. Josh and Cher play around with each other and pick on each other in a sister-brother-type-of-way constantly. Josh is older then Cher and he goes to College.
- Murray:
Murray is Dionne's boyfriend and he has a darker skin tone. Murray cares for Dionne a lot and he helps her learn to drive. He thinks that shaven hair is 'the bomb' so he gets his hair shaved off at the Valley party.
- Elton:
Elton is one of the most popular boys at the school. Elton trys to get with Cher, he kisses her, because he likes Cher and he thinks that she likes him to; Cher was actually trying to get Elton and Tai together.
- Travis:
Travis is a skate boarder, he takes a liking to Tai as soon as he meets her. Travis and Tai share a liking of 'Marvon The Marshian', this character Tai can draw. Travis smokes.
- Mal:
Mal is a strong business man, he works hard and he earns a lot of money. Mal is quite bossy; although he doesn't mind when his daughter (Cher) persuades herself out of things, for an example when Cher persuaded her teachers to change her marks, Mal was happy with this persuasion rather than mad.
- Mr.Hall:
Mr.Hall is one of the teachers at the school, he is a old and single man who is also quite bald.
- Miss Geist:
Miss Geist is one of the teachers at the school also. She runs environment classes to raise money, and at the end of the film she gets married to Mr.Hall.
~ Changes in Characters...
- Cher:
Throughout the film Cher is manipulative, popular, and a little selfish. Cher becomes more aware of other people throughout the film and she becomes a better person. She ends up in love with Josh.
- Dionne:
Dionne is a 'fashion-ista', she loves setting trends and she loves being popular. Throughout the film she becomes more mature and she moves further on in her relationship with Murray.
- Tai:
Tai probably changes the most throughout the film. She isn't that popular when she first comes to the school, although then she becomes more popular with the help of Cher and Dionne. Tai starts to become selfish and inconsiderate of others, she isn't nice to Travis or Cher and she loves the attention too much. Later on in the film though she realises who she had become and she changes again to a better person. She ends up in love with Travis.
- Josh:
Josh is focused on college and practising to become a lawyer, although throughout the film that changes to him being focused more on Cher. He falls in love with Cher.
~Fashion Changes...
- Cher:
Cher wears different clothes everytime she is on the screen, she wears a lot of expensive clothes. Her clothes are matched together by a computer generated 'fashion matcher', what she wears is always colour cooordinated. she wears a lot of skirts, singlets, hats, jackets and accessories.
- Dionne:
Dionne wears a variety of clothes throughout the film. She tends to wear a lot of hats, and she dresses up her braids for example, in one scene she ties little pink flowers into her braids. Dionne is always beautifully dressed.
- Tai:
Towards the start of the film, Tai wears very casual clothes which are a very different style to which Cher and Dionne wear. Their is a statement made in the film when she first arrives that statement is "she could be a farmer in those clothes". Towards the end of the film, after she has a makeover she starts to wear more colour coordinated, beautiful, stylish, and fashionable clothing.
- Josh:
Throughout the movie Josh wears a lot of casual clothes. Usually he would wear dark clothes such as brown tops, black pants, etc.
- Murray:
Murray usually wore quite 'dressy' clothes or 'baggy' clothes throughout the film; he also wore a lot of backward caps.
~Plot of the movie, 'Clueless'...
The plot of Clueless is focused on a couple of popular school girls going through the ups and downs of high school. Making friends, relationships, fights, going out to parties, learning to drive, different family situations, drugs and alcohol, the difference of social groups, and the different feelings and emotions such as jealousy and love, were all members of the plot and how the story comes together. The main point of the plot though is the group of girls, how they change throughout the movie and who they fall in love with. The story is aimed highly at teenagers.
~ Where the film is set (sub settings included)...
The main settings are Cher's house, and the high school. The sub settings are on roads, streets and cars, out the front of Dionne's house, parties, around a fountain, classrooms, and Cher's backyard. The story is meant to be set in California.
~ Music in the film..
The first song to introduce the film is 'we're the kids in America' which was a popular song back atleast 23 years ago, therefore the song would catch viewers attention because it is a known song and it's catchy. Most of the other songs in the film are to represent the mood of the scene, to match the scene, to show that it is to be a romantic, sad, lonely, or happy scene, etc. The songs are usually there to fit in with the moment being displayed on the film. Most music was upbeat and pop to attract the attention of the audience.
~ Issues
-Some issues and themes raised throughout the film were learning to drive, going out to certain parties, drugs, boyfriends and relationships, same sex orientated, family situations, the difference of social groups, sex, jealousy, love and changes.
-They are similar to other films that i have seen because other films have similar situations which are usually featured in teenage films. They are different to other films because they have a different storyline and slightly different issues and themes compared to some other films.
